Spousal Sponsorship

Eligibility Requirements for the Sponsor:

• The applicant must not be inadmissible to Canada due to criminality, health concerns, or other factors.

• Permanent Residence: Once approved, the sponsored spouse or partner receives permanent resident status, which provides full rights in Canada, including access to healthcare and the ability to work or study.

• Outland vs. Inland Sponsorship:
  • Outland Sponsorship: If the spouse or partner is living outside of Canada, they can apply for permanent residence through an outland application. This process is typically faster.
  • Inland Sponsorship: If the spouse or partner is already living in Canada, they can apply for inland sponsorship, which allows them to remain in Canada while their application is being processed. The applicant may also be eligible for an open work permit while waiting for a decision.
