Extend your stay in Canada: Visitor record

When you first arrive in Canada as a visitor, you typically use one of the following documents to enter:

• Visitor visa (also known as a temporary resident visa).
• Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).
• A valid passport or travel document.

If you wish to extend your stay in Canada as a visitor, you must apply for a Visitor Record. Please note, a Visitor Record is not a visa. It is a document that grants you permission to remain in Canada longer as a visitor, or, in some cases, as a worker authorized to work without a work permit or a student authorized to study without a study permit.

The Visitor Record will include a new expiry date, which is the date by which you must leave Canada.
